  • Tax Delay is Causing Tax Payers to Attack Accountants!

In January 2013 the IRS announced a delay for the new tax season and taxpayers are angry!  Congress is to blame for the delay but The Huffington Post has reported some misdirected anger over the issue. Accountants are claiming that they have been threatened over the delay and have even had rocks thrown through their car windshields. Other angry taxpayers are placing their blame with the IRS.

According to the report, the delay postponed the start date by eight days, from January 22nd to January 30th. The announcement was met with anger by constituents because it will result in a delay of refund checks.

The reason for the postponement is a result of the recent arguments in Congress regarding the Bush era tax cuts.  The 2012 tax code was part of that debate.

Going into overtime on this debate is now costing taxpayers their time and energy. The IRS has not had enough time to prepare their paperwork for the new tax system, and didn’t have the necessary forms for filers until well into the first quarter.

The notoriously unpopular IRS has been the target the public’s ire for good reason in the past, but this year’s frustrations are misplaced. The real culprit is Congress, who took their sweet time back in December when making their final decisions on a law that would affect every single tax paying citizen in America, either directly through a delayed refund or indirectly by the delayed boost in the 2013 economy.

In the meantime Americans have to simply keep their heads high and wait it out. The tax returns will be here eventually, and the sooner we start on our taxes, the better.

If you’re in need of an accountant for your small business this tax season, (and you don’t have any rocks in your pocket) please contact Horizon Business Solutions right away for more information on how we can get you closer to your return. The longer you wait, the longer it takes the IRS to process the return!
